Twin Creeks Mine Continues Growth After 30 Years

The Twin Creeks operation in Nevada is nearing completion of Twin Underground, an expansion containing nearly 200,000 ounces of gold

Creating long-term value for our stakeholders is one of the many ways we practice sustainable and responsible mining. In September, our Twin Creeks site commemorated its 30th anniversary of production and 20th anniversary as a Newmont property. It was, at once, a recognition of the mine’s past and a celebration of things to come.

Festivities began with Twin Creeks interim General Manager, Melissa Harmon, welcoming community officials and special guests, and celebrating some of the mine’s longest-serving employees. After enjoying a delicious BBQ lunch, community officials and special guests were treated to a tour of the mine and processing facilities.

Thoughts were also on the mine’s newest project, Twin Underground. Located under a portion of Twin Creeks’ Vista pit, the reserve holds approximately one million tons of ore containing nearly 200,000 ounces of gold. First production from the new asset is expected in 2017’s fourth quarter and commercial production will follow in mid-2018. The expansion is expected to average between 30,000 and 40,000 ounces per year for the next five years, with good potential for growth after that.

At peak production, Twin Underground will employ roughly 90 Newmont personnel and local contractors. Operations Management, Engineering, Geology and Infrastructure Maintenance will be provided by our in-house team, while a local contractor will perform mining and mobile maintenance – all of it resulting in greater integration and improved operational efficiencies for both the surface and underground operations.

Permanent infrastructure currently under construction includes an operations building, maintenance shop, cement batch plant, metal-removal plant, and the expansion of current dry/change room facilities.

Along with our Carlin, Phoenix and Long Canyon mines, Twin Creeks remains a crucial asset in our Nevada portfolio. This region alone accounts for approximately one-third of our production worldwide.

We thank all our employees and other stakeholders for their contributions to the success and long life of Twin Creeks, and we look forward to celebrating many more milestone anniversaries.
