Delivering on our commitments and demonstrating leadership are key to operating responsibly, one of Newmont Goldcorp’s core values. Through developing healthcare infrastructure and investing in community healthcare services, we best express dedication to our purpose: creating value and improving lives through sustainable and responsible mining.
Supporting quality healthcare is a priority at all of our operations, and the Ahafo mine in Ghana is no exception. Last month, Newmont Ghana broke ground on the construction of a new doctors’ residence and children’s ward in the Asutifi North District, as part of upgrades to the Kenyasi Health Center. This initiative is the latest in a partnership between Newmont and the Asutifi North District Assembly, including efforts to expand the existing health center into a district hospital.
On behalf of the Asutifi North District Assembly, District Chief Executive Officer Anthony Mensah confirmed the Assembly will do its part to ensure the district hospital project is completed on time.
Newmont Ghana also collaborated with Project C.U.R.E. in donating $470,000 worth of medical supplies to the proposed hospital to support growing equipment needs. For 15 years, our partnership and volunteer initiatives with Project C.U.R.E. have given us the opportunity to deliver medical supplies and healthcare training to the regions most in need. Through partnerships like these, we can invest in the communities where our resources are needed most, allowing us to pursue our mission of creating shared value for stakeholders in communities where we operate.
