Newmont is pleased to be listed as the only mining company on Corporate Responsibility Magazine’s (CR Magazine) annual 100 Best Corporate Citizens List, which recognizes the standout corporate responsibility and sustainability performance of public companies across the United States. This achievement represents the sixth time over the last 18 years that we have been selected for this recognition, moving up 23 spots from last year’s ranking to sit 43rd overall.
The 100 Best Corporate Citizens List documents 260 data points of disclosure and performance gathered from publicly available information in seven categories: environment, climate change, employee relations, human rights, governance, finance and philanthropy and community support. This year, Newmont received high marks for our performance in human rights, climate change, corporate governance and environmental stewardship.
According to CR Magazine, “When a company succeeds at being transparent, responsible, and accountable – with all aspects backed up by data – they end up earning a coveted spot on Corporate Responsibility Magazine’s 100 Best Corporate Citizens List.”
In 2015 and 2016 Newmont was ranked by the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index (DJSI World) as the mining industry’s overall leader in sustainability, marking the 10th consecutive year we have been included on that index. Most recently, our leading sustainability performance was recognized in the 2017 Sustainability Yearbook – which named Newmont as the most improved company in the mining sector.
Newmont’s talented and hardworking people are to thank for this recognition and it is because of their commitment to our values of safety, integrity, sustainability, inclusion and responsibility that we are able to continue making progress toward achieving our purpose of creating value and improving lives through sustainable and responsible mining.
