Newmont’s global inclusion and diversity strategy focuses on three areas: integrating principles, practices and content into the workplace; increasing the representation of women, nationals, locals and indigenous people across our organization; and establishing community partnerships to support an inclusive and diverse talent pipeline.
We set internal, region-based gender and national targets, as well as local employment targets, to help measure the success of our inclusion and diversity efforts. To ensure we’re making progress toward our targets, quarterly updates to the executive leadership team and the Board of Directors’ Leadership Development and Compensation Committee allow us to review and adjust our approach on an ongoing basis. As members of the Paradigm for Parity coalition, we are also committed to an action plan and toolkit that provide guidance for establishing gender parity in our leadership.
In 2018, all of Newmont Goldcorp’s permanent employees were invited to take part in a global survey measuring employee engagement. The results showed that employee engagement remained well above the industry average, and identified opportunities for improvement.
People are the foundation of our business, so it is crucial that Newmont Goldcorp’s business and human capital strategy are aligned. Our commitment to inclusion and diversity, combined with our approach to employee engagement, helps us create an environment where all employees have the opportunity to contribute, develop and work together to achieve their best and to deliver our strategy.
